What are chakras?

Yes they are. Translated from ancient Sanskrit, the word chakra (pronounced chuckra, not shockra) means 'wheel' or 'circle'. In the West we refer to the chakras as being 7 in number, although some traditional (historical) sources number them at 5-7 and sometimes 8. In either case, they align in an ascending (upward) order along the spinal column, from the base tailbone to the crown of the head. 

By spinning and drawing in universal energy along energy pathways throughout  the body, chakras are believed to have a subtle impact on keeping our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health in balance.

ARE CHAKRAS DIFFERENT FROM REIKI? HOW SO?

Yes. Reiki is a system of energy work that was rediscovered in Japan by Mikao Usui. It works by bringing a positive stream of energy to the receiver's body to be used for their greatest and highest good. 

How to know when chakra balancing is needed?

Generally, we recommend Chakra balancing when one reports feeling 'out of sorts', 'off-center', or imbalanced' and nothing they've done has helped. It is also indicated when one is experiences persistent clumsiness, accidents, loss of jobs, or a sense of being emotionally or spiritually 'lost'.  Chakra balancing is safe for adults, the elderly, children, and pets. 

WHAT IS THE PRACTITIONER'S ROLE?

The practitioner uses his/her hands or a pendulum as a tool to detect the level of energy flow around each chakra. He/She then is attempts to clear and realign the chakras. At Qi To Wellness, each chakra session begins with Reiki to energize the chakras.

Are chakras part of A SPIRITUAL PRACTICE (OR PART OF A RELIGION)?

While Chakra Balancing is not a religious practice, it is practiced by people of all religious, as well as those with no religious beliefs. 

Many people first hear about chakras at a yoga class. This is because both yoga and chakras are central to Ayurveda, the traditional Indian medicine system. Chakras are neither in conflict with nor a replacement for an individual's belief system. In fact, chakras may enhance one's spiritual experience by improving energy flow.

Please note that some chakra practitioners do integrate their personal spiritual practices into sessions. If this is something you wish to avoid, be sure to seek out a practitioner (like those here at Qi To Wellness) who does not by asking questions beforehand.

WILL I NEED TO UNDRESS FOR MY SESSION? IS TOUCH NECESSARY?

Beyond the Reiki portion of the session, touch is not typical as chakras can be sensed without touch. Clothing remains on during a chakra session which is administered by the practitioner using their hands or pendulum to sense the energy at the locations of the seven chakras. Care is taken to ensure that you feel comfortable at all times. At Qi To Wellness, we do ask that you remove your shoes, wristwatch and clunky jewelry (and possibly any gemstones) prior to laying on the table. 

WHAT WILL I FEEL DURING AND AFTER A REIKI SESSION?

The experience varies for each individual, and for each individual from one session to the next. Most people, at least, come away with a profound sense of calm, balance, focus, and energy. At Qi To Wellness, we are always interested in hearing how you experienced Reiki!

how often should one have the chakras cleared and balanced?

That decision is up to the individual. For someone with a balanced, low stress life, quarterly sessions may suffice. If a specific need or particular imbalance is apparent, one may find more frequent sessions are useful until a consistent flow of energy is achieved. Afterwards, quarterly maintenance may be all that is needed.
