FAQs about doulas

Why have a doula?

A doula is a woman who provides emotional support to women and their families through labor and birth.

Statistics show that doula-assisted births reduce:

  • cesarean rate (50%)
  • actual labor time (25%)
  • epidural requests (60%)
  • oxytocin use (40%)
  • analgesia use (30%)
  • forceps delivery (40%)

Will the Doula replace the father or partner?

The partner, may be better able to provide continuous support but often has little actual experience in dealing with the forces of labor. Even with intensive preparation, many are surprised at the amount of work involved (more than enough for two people). More importantly, many partners experience birth as an emotional journey of their own and find it hard to be objective in the situation.

Studies show that partners usually participate more actively during labor in the presence of a doula than without one. A responsible doula supports, encourages, and enhances the partner in his support style.

Every mother and family should have the birth experience of thetr dreams and welcome a healthy, happy baby to love and cherish. As a nutrition doula, I believe in and am committed to the total health of women, children and families.

Using an integrative and holistic approach, I can help you prepare for parenthood, again or anew, with confidence, optimal health and joy while supporting your dietary preferences, including veg*n, gluten-free, halal, kosher, or something else.

Most of the women and families I work with are excited to prepare their bodies for conception by creating a healthy environment for fertilization to take place as well as optimizing the mother's post-birth healing, creating sufficient quality milk supply, and providing and educating about healthy meals options for their family's nutritional needs.

As your nutrition doula, I address each of these concerns and more. Whether you are planning a pregnancy or recently delivered your baby, we'll determine your desired outcomes, and begin from wherever you are in your birth journey.
